Senior Software Engineer - Digital Accessibility

As the digital landscape continues to evolve and re-invent itself, it’s never been more important to make sure anyone interested in doing business with us can do so successfully. With more than 12 million consumer and small business customers who engage daily with our products on the web, mobile and at ATM’s and Branches across the country, we are selectively recruiting for a rock star candidate to join the team spearheading Capital One’s Digital Accessibility efforts aimed at delivering accessible products to our customers via all digital channels enterprise-wide.

The person will:

Demonstrate a proven track record of excellent management, bringing the ability to quickly put structure in place to manage work in a dynamic complex environment

Have excellent communication and partnership skills which are essential for interacting and communicating with key stakeholders at all levels across the company to manage, inform and influence outcomes

Extensive experience working on enterprise scale initiatives

Strong work ethic, entrepreneurial spirit, and passion for growing a program

Understanding of software development, technology and consulting practices

Ability to attract, retain, and develop quality resources

Ability to multi-task and execute effectively under pressure for sustained periods

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with Product, Design and Engineering agile teams across the company to ensure delivery of accessible products and services

Educate and train agile teams on specific accessibility requirements and best practices to bake accessibility in early in the lifecycle vs. back-end testing requiring prioritization and remediation

Perform manual and automated testing of all applicable digital properties against accessibility requirements

Compile, analyze and deliver reporting of scanning and monitoring results to all enterprise business lines and Business Risk Offices for action-oriented consideration (self-service opportunities and/or remediation)

Leverage prior experience to constantly evaluate and recommend improvements to the accessibility processes and the suite of tools and training materials

Zeal for moving beyond simple conformance with stated guidelines

Develop industry best practices and learnings from prior experience

Knowledge and passion for ensuring accessibility is a part of inclusive design and development practices used to empower makers to deliver great products for everyone

Grounding in human centered design with a natural empathy for consumers with disabilities

Broad thinking and ability to question the status quo

You have a high level of intellectual curiosity and are comfortable with ambiguity

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or military experience

At least 3 years of experience in front end web or mobile development

At least 3 years of experience in Agile methodologies

At least 3 years of experience in DevOps and software delivery processes

At least 3 years of experience managing projects and product development through the software development life cycle

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Computer Science or IT

At least 1 year of experience managing regulatory requirements, including section 508 and the Americans with Disabilities Act

At least 1 year of experience working with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and assistive technologies (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver TalkBack, Dragon, etc.)

At least 3 years of People Management experience

Experience designing and developing applications (web, mobile) that are WCAG or Section 508 conformant
