Accessibility Assistant

The Accessibility Assistant will support faculty and staff in ensuring that all course and online materials comply with Title II/ADA digital accessibility requirements in alignment with the April 2026 WCAG 2.1 AA mandate. This position is focused on guiding and assisting faculty and staff in remediating digital content such as Word documents, PDFs, PowerPoint slides, and media, primarily within the LMS and college-supported platforms.

This is not a production-only role; the assistant serves as a collaborative partner, promoting faculty and staff ownership of accessibility while providing technical support, targeted remediation, and training.

There are 3 positions available. and the hourly rate is $18-$25/hour.

Key Responsibilities:
-Provide hands-on support to faculty and staff in making course materials accessible (e.g., adding alt text, using styles, tagging PDFs, captioning videos).
-Review and provide feedback on documents submitted by faculty and staff for accessibility.
-Assist faculty and staff in using tools like Blackboard Ally, Microsoft Accessibility Checker, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
-Maintain documentation and tracking of faculty and staff requests and completed tasks.
-Contribute to accessibility resources, FAQs, and video tutorials.
-Participate in regular check-ins with teams.
-Escalate complex issues as needed.
-Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
-Familiarity with WCAG 2.1 AA standards
-Experience with document remediation (Word, PDF, PowerPoint)
-Attention to detail and strong communication skills
-Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student success

Preferred Qualifications:
-Understanding of LMS platforms (preferably Blackboard)
-Prior experience in higher education or instructional support
-Certification or training in digital accessibility (e.g., Deque, IAAP, etc.)
-Experience using Blackboard Ally, EquatIO, Panopto, or UDOIT
