Job Summary:

 

The Accessible Procurement Specialist leads the accessibility procurement process and provides central oversight, technical leadership, expert guidance, coordination, and support to the institution’s departments and programs in procuring accessible technology.

 
Duties/Physical Demands:

1) Develop processes for evaluating technology assets, platforms, and services for their ability to comply with accessibility standards.
2) Communicate accessibility requirements with vendors, content owners, application owners, and stakeholders.
3) Manage the Equally Effective Alternative Access Plan (EEAAP) process.
4) Lead the accessibility review process for new technology before purchase; confer with vendors, buyers, and department representatives.
5) Participate in the development and maintenance of guidelines, checklists, how-to documents, and web-based resources to support an accessible campus.
6) Partner with the Miller Center for Student Disability Services to identify accommodation solutions if access barriers are identified.
7) Respond to user-reported accessibility issues. Work with users and developers/vendors, if necessary, to determine & document a solution in a timely manner.
8) Conduct web and document accessibility testing against WCAG standards
9) and federal requirements.
10) Develop and implement training on accessibility standards and best practices for a wide variety of audiences including faculty, staff, and students.
11) Develop reporting to monitor and assess University and departmental accessibility efforts.
12) Build departmental support for accessibility advocacy through presentations and consultations on accessibility-related topics.
13) Assist with document remediation.
14) Actively promote a customer-oriented approach throughout IT Services.
15) Participate in professional development activities.
16) Perform related duties as required or assigned.

 
Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field, earned by date of hire

This position is available to persons who are currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time and indefinite basis. (Persons authorized to work on such a basis include US citizens, lawful permanent residents (“green card” holders), asylees, refugees, and temporary residents under IRCA.

 
Desired Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in Communications, Rehabilitation Counseling, Educational Psychology, Psychology, or Social Work.
• At least 1-2 years of experience working with technology vendors and service providers (procurement, implementation, modification/customization, incident remediation, etc.).
• Demonstrated experience with accessibility analysis, testing, design, and development.
• Working knowledge of US ADA Section 504 and Standards published by the World Wide Web Consortium such as WCAG 2.x, ATAG, UAAG, WAI-ARIA, and MathML, DAISY Standard, and EPUB3.
• Working knowledge of accessibility barriers.
• Strong communication, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently, in a team, and with or without direction.
• Experience working effectively in highly collaborative, team-oriented environments.
• Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities.
• Accessibility certifications through organizations such as IAAP (International Association of Accessibility Professionals).
