Position Summary:
Moraine Park Technical College is seeking a full-time Accessibility Support Specialist on our Fond du Lac Campus. The Accessibility Support Specialist is responsible for the delivery of disability-related needs, including academic support services as designated by student accommodation plans. This role also plays a critical role in advancing digital inclusion efforts for Moraine Park Technical College (MPTC) by ensuring that online content, instructional materials and digital tools meet the most current Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance standards.
The successful candidate will have an Associate degree in a related field and three years of related work experience with working with individuals with disabilities. Responsibilities:
• Work in collaboration with Accessibility Resources team and faculty to provide one-on-one academic support and accommodations to students with disabilities.
• Utilizing a web-based software system, provide accommodations/academic support services to students based on individual accommodation plans. Services may include assignment clarification/review, course concept clarification and review, test preparation, testing accommodations, proofreading assistance, obtaining e-texts, assistive technology support and communicating with faculty as needed.
• Coordinate, schedule and proctor testing with willingness to be flexible with scheduled hours to meet student needs.
• Provide employees with training on digital accessibility best practices, including how to create accessible documents, multimedia content and online learning materials that comply with WCAG and ADA standards.
• Provide one-on-one consultations and workshops to help faculty implement accessible course design in learning management systems (LMS), digital assessments, and instructional technologies.
• Audit digital platforms, websites, and instructional materials for accessibility compliance and collaborate with IT, curriculum, and Accessibility Resources to implement accessibility initiatives.
• Develop and maintain a repository of accessibility resources, including guides, templates and tools, to support employees in their efforts to create accessible content.
• Serve as a resource for employees on accessibility-related inquiries, including captioning, alternative text and accessible formatting for course materials.
• Track student utilization and collaborate with Accessibility Resources team to implement services as needed. Prepare reports regarding accessibility initiatives, student accommodation usage and compliance efforts.
• Collaborate with the Student Success Center for testing and/or academic support with the adult education students/ at-risk students.
• Maintain and provide regularly scheduled Accessibility Center walk-in hours to include coverage at other campuses as needed.
Experience & Qualifications(in addition to those listed in the summary above):
• Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
• Knowledge of software applications, including Microsoft Office 365 (Office Suite, Teams, SharePoint, etc.).
• Strong knowledge of ADA, Section 504, Section 508, and WCAG standards for digital accessibility.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to identify and address accessibility barriers in digital environments.
• High degree of integrity and professionalism and a demonstrated ability to respect the confidentiality of information and demonstrate critical and systems thinking.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize special projects with routine assignments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate clearly and effectively with end users, colleagues, and management to provide a complete and timely explanation of issues and decisions to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. Ability to collaborate and work effectively as part of a team.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations by promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity.
Desired Qualifications:
• Experience working in higher education.
• Knowledge of assistive technology.
• Experience assessing and improving digital accessibility in educational platforms, instructional materials and institutional websites.
• Experience auditing and remediating digital content (PDFs, Word documents, PowerPoint and web-based materials) to ensure accessibility compliance.
Other Position Requirements:
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Hiring Range: $24.73-$28.68 (pending board approval)
Starting: July 2025
Workplace Flexibility: Limited work from home upon approval
Hours/Schedule/Travel: Academic: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Summer: Monday - Thursday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Frequent travel to other campus locations to cover for testing.
