This is an opportunity for highly motivated candidates with skills in software engineering (especially related to

accessibility) combined with some or all of the following: assistive technology, collaboration, human-machine teams, social

media, and/or decision support systems. These skills would be employed to solve critical technological problems for our

Government sponsors and enhance the user experience in Government systems and experimental prototypes.

The successful candidate will:

Assist MITRE and government sponsors in solving accessibility challenges including enterprise remediation efforts and integrating commercial accessibility solutions into government environments
Contribute to the technical development of web applications and other software solutions
Develop test plans, conduct accessibility evaluations, and develop accessible software solutions
Apply accessibility software development standards to enterprise issues
Work independently and on a team to develop software and conduct accessibility evaluations
Participate in working groups to discuss accessibility issues and solutions
Conduct market surveys on the technical aspects of assistive technologies
Collaborate with industry and academia to improve accessibility at MITRE and for sponsors


Key Functions:

Participate in working groups to discuss technical aspects of accessibility issues and solutions
Make recommendations for acquiring or implementing accessible decision support, collaboration, and assistive technologies
Perform accessibility testing and remediation on sponsor-facing software solutions
Help educate software developers and testers on accessibility issues and evaluation methods
Apply knowledge of the state of the art for decision support systems, collaboration tools, and assistive technology
Apply rapid prototyping techniques and agile methodologies
Document work, produce and brief presentations, and write technical reports and papers for publication

Minimum Qualifications

BS in software engineering, computer science, computer engineering, or relevant technical discipline with a focus on software development
5 + years of related experience
Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances

Required Qualifications

Understanding of applying Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Section 508 compliance and accessible development practices
Strong fundamentals in software engineering, object-oriented programming, web application development, and software architecture
Experience developing web applications using HTML JavaScript, CSS, and at least one major frontend framework such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
Experience in assistive and accessibility technologies in the context of software engineering, testing, and coding
Passion to grow accessibility knowledge for oneself, the company, and our sponsors.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degrees in software engineering, computer science, computer engineering or a related field.
Qualified candidates holding an active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance are highly preferred.
