Job Description
Job Summary Under the general direction of the Disability Management Services (DMS) Executive Director and Manager, the DMS Consultant provides disability management services to staff, academic and student employees with disabilities, injuries, illnesses or medical conditions as mandated by ADA/FEHA, UC policies and collective bargaining agreements. Provides guidance, referrals and resources to employees with disabilities and their supervisors/managers related to the reasonable accommodation process. Obtains and clarifies medical documentation of disability related limitations/restrictions, facilitates the interactive dialogue between the employee and supervisor/manager, researches, develops and recommends individualized accommodation plans. When necessary, the Consultant makes referrals for reassignment/alternate job search and consults on requests for medical separation. The Consultant has authority to approve medical separations. Works closely and collaboratively with all levels of the organization on highly confidential and sensitive matters that involve substantial complexity. Develops and provides training for department managers, supervisors and partners regarding obligations under law, policy and collective bargaining agreements related to individuals with disabilities. Tracks, monitors and updates cases in UC Accommodate database, updates Aggie Service and maintains statistics and metrics, as needed. Apply By Date: June 16, 2026 Qualifications Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position * Current Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC); hold a current Counselor Certification from the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) or Current Certified Disability Management Specialist (CDMS) or be able to obtain certification within 12 months of hire. * Bachelor's Degree in counseling, psychology, or related field * Minimum of 5 years work experience in Disability Management/Vocational Rehabilitation. * Excellent communication skills; ability to convey complex information in an easy-to-understand manner. Strong working knowledge of Federal and California laws related to employees and applicants with disabilities, including ADA/FEHA/FMLA/CFRA/PDL/WC * Experience interpreting medical documentation of disability related limitations/restrictions, facilitating the interactive process and providing reasonable accommodations in a large, complex organization. Demonstrated con?ict resolution and negotiation skills; strong analytical and critical thinking skills to define and solve a problem quickly * Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships at all levels of the organization. Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts; experience working effectively with diverse groups Organized and detail oriented; demonstrated ability to successfully manage a large workload with frequently changing priorities * Experience delivering effective workshops and training. Computer experience using commonly used applications and databases including Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc. Preferred Qualifications * Master's Degree in counseling, psychology, related field or equivalent relevant experience. * 5 years' work experience in Disability Management/Vocational Rehabilitation in Higher Education, a Health Care System or a comparable large business organization.
