Principal Accessibility Consultant

Nomensa

Bristol,UK

This job is expired.

At Nomensa, we believe that making websites accessible for all is a basic human right, not just a legal requirement. Founded in 2001, we design outstanding, accessible digital experiences for an impressive roster of instantly recognisable clients. With a team of around 100 industry professionals, across our Bristol, London and Amsterdam offices, we have a long heritage in strategic UX design thinking. As members of W3C we also help shape the global best practice accessibility guidelines, and directly contribute to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

Due to growth in demand for our services we are now looking for a Principal Accessibility Consultant, to join our London or Bristol office. You'll be working remotely initially, with the expectation that when we will be moving to a hybrid office/home based working pattern when lockdown restrictions are lifted.

What you’ll be doing

Accessibility practitioners at Nomensa work to a world class standard of web accessibility, and you’ll be working closely with skilled practitioners and leaders in the field, including Alastair Campbell who is co-editor of WCAG, and Al Duggin, former Head of Accessibility at the Government Digital Service.

As Principal Accessibility Consultant at Nomensa you will be put to work on a variety of projects, from audits, training and consulting, helping to grow our accessibility services and strategic capability. You’ll provide practitioner leadership to ensure our clients feel more equipped to make the necessary changes to make their services as accessible as possible. Client-side, you will lead workshops and training sessions, as well as inspiring our clients and supporting their change agendas in respect of accessibility. Internally, you will help us to refine our accessibility services for clients and influence the services we provide.

Collaboration is a given at Nomensa, so you'll work closely with colleagues across business development, client services, and studio to identify opportunities and promote Nomensa’s capabilities in the accessibility space and support the growth of key clients and accounts for commercial success. You'll also have the opportunity to share your skills, knowledge and experience through mentoring and training in all things accessibility.

Nomensa work across a wide range of sectors, commercial, not for profit, and in partnership with government departments such as the MET office and NHS Digital, to name but a few. You’ll get variety and plenty of opportunities to redesign and shape some high profile government services and make a positive difference. As a Principal, you’ll maintain close client relationships with potential to inform the direction of really exciting programmes of work, and get to work with multi-disciplinary experts who are passionate about making the web a better place!

What we are looking for

We are looking for a very experienced Accessibility practitioner who can take the lead role on large scale programmes delivering both research and end-to-end experiences, and all the while inspiring the clients and teams you work with. You're comfortable communicating with board level audiences and in leading workshops for a breadth of stakeholders.

Agency experience would be useful, along with a keen enthusiasm to help with sales activities, and craft compelling strategies and proposals for new projects. A strong ability to lead on, and commercially drive projects is fundamental to success in this role.

From a software development perspective, a solid working understanding of HTML, CSS and WAI-ARIA is essential. A working knowledge of JavaScript, and the different frameworks is also essential. You will often be looking at code to understand how sites have been built, and how this may have impacted on the accessibility, and advising our clients on remedial action.

Multi-sector experience is advantageous and if you have worked with government departments and the GDS principles, then this is also useful as we do a lot of work in this space.

Why you'll love Nomensa

Our people love working here, it’s a supportive working environment where you can expect to work with, and learn from, teams of highly collaborative, skilled practitioners, and we are one of the few companies within the UK to achieve gold standard accreditation by Investors in People. We are committed to giving our people a supportive platform for ongoing career development, and you’ll have excellent variety of projects to work on for well known clients in the commercial, charity, and government sectors.

We work hard to make our working culture one of the best in the industry. As an example, our team of Chief Happiness Officers support events throughout the year - even through lockdowns! It’s an exciting, collaborative environment where we have one focus: humanising technology.

The people you will be working with are very passionate, and have a relentless pursuit of excellence, take pride in their work, and are super-collaborators across Nomensa where we ‘think bigger’ with internal knowledge sharing and commercial ideas. If this sounds like it could be a team that suits your own ethos, then we would love to hear from you.
