Android Accessibility Software Engineer

Role Summary

The primary objective as an Android Accessibility Software Engineer in the Intelligent Cockpit & Body (ICB) department is the coordination, implementation and testing of Android Accessibility Services for CARIAD OneInfotainment. This role requires both hands-on software implementation as well as coordination of dependencies & interfaces across many Applications & System Components, to provide an outstanding accessible experience for our infotainment systems

Role Responsibilities

Development activities

Software development of Android Accessibility Services for Android Automotive OS in collaboration with system engineers and software experts from technology & development partners

Analysis and profiling of Android framework, applications, or services

Implementation of Android applications & services according to the software lifecycle

Contribution to Android related framework and company-owned frameworks with interface reviews

Technical alignment with suppliers and development partners

Implementation of state-of-the-art approaches to develop best-in-class infotainment systems

Additional responsibilities

Creation of technical specifications and documentation

Independent handling of project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables

Tracking of assigned bugs / issues, including ticket reviews

Status reporting to project stakeholders (domestic and international)

Supporting usability studies of accessibility features

Years of Experience

5-7 years

Education Required

Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field. Master's preferred

Strong planning and organization skills
Solid knowledge about the Android Framework, AOSP platform architecture, and related build systems
3+ years of work experience in Android application development, extending Android framework components, system services, and the Android SDK
5+ years of working experience with object-oriented designs
Proficiency in C++, Java, or Kotlin
Solid work experience with software life-cycle methodologies

Desired Skills

Familiar with software accessibility services in general and in particular with Android (like TalkBack, BrailleBack, SwitchAccess)
Work experience with agile development practices and tools (e.g. SAFe, Confluence, Jira, etc.)
Know-how about the Android Automotive OS

Work Flexibility

Occasional early morning (virtual) meetings to align with stakeholders and development teams in Germany.
Occasional domestic & international business travel may be required to support usability studies and planning/integration workshops with our suppliers and development partners.
