How you’ll make an impact

As a Senior Technical Digital Accessibility Analyst at Xero, you will work closely with our Design,Product, Technology, and Customer teams to help drive accessibility of Xero’s customer-facing and internal domains.

As a member of the Design team, you’ll be a critical execution partner to our teams and will influence the accessibility-related actions we take across our globally distributed, rapidly growing team of busy, ambitious and creative professionals.

You’ll contribute to the standard for accessibility engineering excellence at Xero, continuing to develop your accessibility knowledge and skills, and supporting Xero team members in building inclusive products together.

Ultimately, you’ll play an integral role in keeping our digital product and support experiences aligned with our #human value, our purpose and vision, ensuring that inclusivity is embedded in our product development approach.
What you’ll do

Provide technical Front End Development support. You’ll provide solutions for internal accessibility questions and provide responses and workarounds for customer queries.
Conduct Digital Accessibility audits and peer reviews. Using WCAG criteria and best practice as a guide you’ll classify failures and provide recommendations in the context of the Xero Design System. You’ll make periodical improvements for quality and speed.
Conduct manual testing using assistive technology. You’ll test using VoiceOver, NVDA, TalkBack, Voice Control, and Voice Access. Zoom on Mac OS, Windows Contrast themes.
Analyse accessibility insights to inform training and community engagement. Gathering insight from support channels and auditing, you’ll identify priority topics for accessibility training and support documentation.
Review and provide recommendations to improve accessibility processes. You’ll work with Engineering teams to understand their processes and recommend improvements to embed accessibility and support long term behavioural change.
Coach and support product teams. Working collaboratively with your peers, you’ll advise Product, Design, and Engineering teams on WCAG, WAI-ARIA, options, and trade-offs.
Plan and execute projects to build and embed accessibility into ways of working. As part of a multidisciplinary Digital Accessibility team, you’ll strategise and plan work to improve the accessibility capability including training, pair programming and advocacy.
Usability testing with people with disabilities. Facilitate interviews, compatibility tests, and prototype reviews for user testing both in person and using our online platform.
Run training and facilitate events. Making and running hands-on interactive workshops, facilitating Q&A sessions, and community of practice events.

What you’ll bring

Front-end Development experience or similar (at a Senior Engineer or equivalent level)
Proven Digital Accessibility auditing experience in fast-moving, digital businesses
Proficiency at creating accessible code using semantic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Familiar with at least one modern front-end framework/library such as React/Angular/Vue
Expert at using and testing with a variety of assistive technologies across Windows, Mac OS, iOS, and Android
Ability to debug across a technology stack (native mobile experience valued)
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly explain accessibility concepts and provide expert guidance
Comfort with ambiguity and ready to step forward to take ownership of solving problems
Experience building accessibility into engineering practices preferred
Experience testing with people with disabilities preferred
