Responsibilities:
We are seeking a mission-focused Section 508 Accessibility Compliance Tester and Section 508 subject matter expert to support and contribute to our government customer’s success

ALL work is 100% REMOTE

Position is for 6+ months (contract is for a modernization effort on various applications. As additional applications are added to the work stream the Section 508 support will continue)

We are looking to hire a senior 508 Compliance testing professional with experience in Section 508 and W3C WCAG Accessibility assessments, manual and automated testing, and software remediation. Experience working with a government customer a plus.

Duties, Tasks & Responsibilities

Validate 508 compliance using government accessibility standards, for web or file based content, including but not limited to, user manuals, frequently asked questions, knowledge-based articles, user guides, job aids, training videos, activity guides and sheets, and micro-learning videos.
Consult with multiple functional roles, or client stakeholders, on accessibility testing results and remediation possibilities; provide remediation recommendations
Demonstrate advanced knowledge of Section 508 and accessibility-related user interface (UI) best practices for web sites.
Knowledge in testing mobile application, testing software applications, and reviewing/correcting documents to ensure accessibility compliance.
Identify accessibility testing requirements, and estimate level of effort.
Identify errors in document structure, headings, reading order, images, charts and tables, and hyperlinks.
Stay current on USDA Section 508 policy, accessibility checklists, and additional federal accessibility guidelines.
Evaluate accessibility testing tools, or new accessibility testing software, for use in meeting federal accessibility guidelines.
Manage tasks, and meet deadlines, in multiple projects, in series or parallel.
Preparing and testing documents to ensure compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (29 U.S.C. 794d).
Familiarity with alt text, tagging, color contrast, and the requirements of compliance and how to meet them.
Identify areas of non-compliance in custom documents, web applications, and COTS products like SharePoint, and suggest solutions to achieve compliance.

Qualifications:

Required Experience, Education, Skills & Technologies

Seven years (7) of quality assurance/testing experience.
Demonstrated use of assistive technologies such as screen readers i.e., JAWS for Windows,
Demonstrated use of mobile assistive technologies such as iOS VoiceOver and Android TalkBack
A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in computer science, information technology, human computer interaction, or a related field.
Knowledge of, as well as ability to test against, Section 508 and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 requirements for IT software and hardware.
Familiarity with Federal Government accessibility testing is preferred.
Knowledge of HTML semantics/tagging, Accessible Rich Internet Applications (ARIA), hyperlink integrity, and remediation of Section 508 accessibility issues.

Experience educating customer on Section 508 requirements. Standards and tools and server as the Section 508 subject matter expert to the team

Preferred Experience, Education, Skills & Technologies

Experience testing GIS applications for Section 508 Compliance and ability to make recommendations to improve GIS accessibility

Certification : (at least 1)

DHS Trusted Tester
IAAP Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies "CPACC"
IAAP Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS) Credential
