We're seeking an outstanding Section 508 Document Accessibility Specialist to join our Editorial team. Position Location: This position is open to full-time remote/virtual work

To be considered for this position, you must be adept in the concepts of ADA or 508 compliance for documents and presentations. This includes familiarity with alt text, tagging, reading order, tables, forms, color contrast, and the requirements of compliance and how to meet them.

Remediate PDFs using Adobe Acrobat to meet the Department of Health and Human Services’ Section 508 Accessibility checklists, pass both the Acrobat and PDF Accessibility Checkers (PAC 2021), and are readable using screen readers such as JAWS or NVDA.
Remediate documents for accessibility-related design issues, such as color contrast or use of color.
Conduct quality control reviews on PDFs, PowerPoint, and Word documents to ensure they are Section 508 compliant.
Review and remediate PPT and Word documents to ensure they are Section 508 compliant.
Collaborate with coworkers in finding solutions to technical problems.

Qualifications:

College or government experience is required; a bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred
Minimum 3 years of experience in an office environment remediating for Section 508/ADA/document accessibility
Experience remediating PDF documents for Section 508 compliance; experience with 508 remediations of PowerPoint presentations required
Familiarity with HHS Section 508 requirements for PDFs
Experience with document design and accessibility requirements regarding the use of color
Experience with Adobe Acrobat Pro or DC
Experience with Acrobat Accessibility Checker
Strong MS Word and PowerPoint skills
Outstanding organizational and time-management skills
Ability to work quickly and accurately under deadline pressure
Strong command of English spelling, punctuation, and grammar
Innate customer service mentality
Ability to solve problems quickly and creatively


Preferred Skills - You’ll earn bonus points if you have:

Working knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
Experience using Axes PDF, CommonLook, PAC 2021 accessibility checkers
Experience with accessible PDF forms
Experience with JAWS or NVDA screen readers
DHS Trusted Tester certification
IAAP electronic documents certification
HTML and/or other programming skills
Editing or proofreading experience
Experience working in a government contracting environment
