The City and County of Broomfield IT Department’s purpose is to strengthen trusted partnerships with our community that guide innovative, secure, and sustainable technology solutions.

The City and County of Broomfield is seeking a Limited Term Appointment (LTA) Accessibility Specialist to be part of Broomfield’s ongoing efforts to ensure that the digital content produced is accessible to all users. If you are passionate about driving inclusion and diversity to ensure that no one is excluded from accessing important information and services, this role is for you! The LTA Accessibility Specialist position, budgeted through the end of 2024, is responsible for testing and evaluating web pages, mobile apps, software interfaces, etc. to ensure they meet certain standards of accessibility.

About Us:

The IT department is made up of 35 staff in 6 divisions (GIS, DevOps, Customer Success, Project Management, Cybersecurity, and Administration) and is responsible for guiding and governing City and County technology focused on business solutions, reliability, innovations, and customer satisfaction. The department is responsible for providing:

Responsive and knowledgeable support for business and enterprise technology systems, network services, and desktop support services

City and County of Broomfield Total Compensation Package
Hiring Range: $23.39 - $27.52/hour

Essential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties

Accessibility Specialist (LTA) Responsibilities Include:

Assists the project team and other consultant experts to assess current state of websites, documents, applications and other digital asset accessibility and make recommendations for improvements
Address gaps in accessibility through co-creation and implementation of a prioritized remediation plan, including tracking of solutions from software vendor partners
Collaborates with IT, Communications, and the Development, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DDEI) team to create training materials on digital accessibility, including video and digital documentation
Remediate gaps in accessibility through communication, collaboration and implementation of digital accessibility requirements set by WCAG 2.0/2.1 (AA) and as required by CO House Bill 21-1110
Utilizes Section 508 and WCAG 2.0/2.1 (AA) to review and revise various document types, and various digital resources in close collaboration with the Broomfield Communications and IT teams

Assists with the creation of internal and external document templates.

Minimum Qualifications

The Ideal Candidate:

Excellent relationship-building skills with internal teams and external partners

Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a highly diverse set of customers
Knowledge of Google Suite
HTML proficiency and familiarity with content management systems
Proficient in accessibility guidelines, WCAG, and ADA standards
Demonstrated ability to conduct accessibility testing with assistance against the WCAG 2.0/2.1 (AA)
Proficiency with screen readers and other current assistive technologies
Excellent understanding of digital writing concepts
Excellent understanding of digital design concepts
Strong understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)'s requirements for reasonable accommodations and effective communication

Preferred Candidate Training/Experience/Certifications:

High School Diploma/GED - required
International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) Certification (e.g. CPACC, WAS, CPWA, and CPABE) - preferred
Associate's Degree or 60 semester hours from an accredited college or university - preferred
1 year experience required in evaluating and remediating documents, websites and other digital assets for Web Content Accessiblity Guidelines compliance
Experience with ADA, W3C (Web Accessibility Initiative) and Section 508 compliance

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the Necessary Applicant Traits.
