Are you passionate about technology and seeking a dynamic work environment? Consider a part-time position as a Digital Accessibility Coordinator! The Accessibility & Disability Services (ADS) department within Student Affairs and supporting academic affairs at Salt Lake Community College is dedicated to promoting access and removing barriers.
As a Digital Accessibility Coordinator you will collaborate with faculty and other assistive technologists to provide essential remediation services for ADS student accommodation and the overall curriculum. Your primary focus will be on coordinating accessibility review of academic content at SLCC and ensuring strict compliance with ADA Title II updated regulations. This role requires keen attention to detail and a commitment to upholding accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.1 AA. Flexibility and teamwork are key in this collaborative role.
This is 1 year contract position.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Working with faculty to coordinate the remediation of course content, utilizing various tools, such as Microsoft 365, Adobe Acrobat, etc.
Running reports to locate accessibility errors in course content.
Independently prioritize, problem-solve, and research best practices for accessible implementation of course materials.
Maintain accurate records via department spreadsheets on SharePoint to effectively collaborate with other Assistive Technologists.
Demonstrate and train faculty and staff in the use of assistive technologies.
Visually review and compare inaccessible course materials to be able to create new accessible materials in various formats.
Maintain a positive work environment as regular collaboration and trust between faculty, staff, and students is vital to effectively serve students.
Uphold student confidentiality in accordance with ADA and FERPA regulations.
Follow the AT Lab Staff guidelines, be dependable, reliable, and exhibit professionalism at all times.
Some travel is necessary between campuses.
Other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
1-2 years’ experience working with technology in a higher education setting, i.e. Canvas LMS, Adobe Acrobat, etc.
Minimum of two years of post-secondary education with a completion of at least 60 college credit hours.
Preferred Qualifications
College-level coursework in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Computer Science, or related field.
Knowledge of accessibility/assistive technology.
Proficiency in using Canvas LMS.
Familiarity with HTML fundamentals and WCAG 2.1.
