Job Description

Our Wave is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization building a trauma-informed digital platform to support survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), including sexual assault, domestic violence, and child sexual abuse. Our team includes full-time and part-time staff engineers, researchers, data scientists, designers, and operations volunteers. Since launching in 2019, we have supported hundreds of thousands of survivors globally through anonymous storytelling, resource matching, AI-powered triage, and survivor-centered research. We are seeking a visionary UI/UX Product Designer to lead the design of Harbor, an online healing program for survivors of sexual and domestic violence. Harbor is a deeply immersive, research-backed digital experience designed to create a warm, safe, and empowering space for survivors to heal on their own terms. You will work closely with our Director of Research to translate evidence-based program structures and therapeutic activities into a beautiful, intuitive digital experience. Harbor will be an extension of our existing community platform, which supports survivors sharing stories, accessing resources, and engaging in grounding activities in multiple languages. Responsibilities include: - Designing the end-to-end Harbor program experience from concept to developer-ready deliverables - Partnering with research to understand therapeutic intent and translate it into interactive design - Creating highly interactive, immersive components and multi-step program flows - Ensuring design continuity with the existing community platform - Establishing and maintaining a design language and style guide - Applying a mobile-first design philosophy - Delivering organized and documented Figma files for developer collaboration - Advocating trauma-informed and accessibility-first design decisions - Navigating legal and compliance standards with best practices Qualifications: - Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Graphic Design, UI/UX Design, Human Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, or related field - 5+ years of formal UI/UX experience - Deep interest in creating impactful software for sensitive populations Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in digital therapeutics and consumer health applications - Background in gender-based violence or trauma-affected/vulnerable populations This is a part-time, 6-month contract with the possibility of extension (minimum 20 hours/week). Market compensation will be discussed during screening. There is potential for transition to full-time. Some travel (10-20%) may be required, with expenses covered.
